A tiny “change” in history may be a revolution.
In 1880, a French engineer named Gao Rand first exhibited the original transformer. This kind of transformer can adjust the AC voltage without changing the voltage frequency.
The patent for it was later owned by Westin House, which enabled him to help Tesla build an AC power system and eventually defeated Edison’s DC empire.
In essence, the transformer, as a kind of machine that uses an electromagnetic field to convert energy, is still a kind of motor. But with it, no one will use an AC motor to drag an alternator to change voltage.
People no longer use electric motors to drive generators to change electricity, it’s not that they don’t need it, it’s just that they have found a better way.
Over the past hundred years, electrical engineers have thought about it and landed on only a few lines of paper. But it is these efforts that make thousands of changes in our lives.
Regardless of success or failure, what awaits mankind will be a new and more powerful electric energy system.
